MYX Music Label Unveils Plans For Prolific 2010

Some really exciting news from MYX Music Label regarding upcoming releases. I am especially looking forward to the new One Be Lo album, but they're all intriguing and I look forward to showing plenty of support.

2009 was a triumphant year for MYX Music Label, and with the new year upon us the Bay Area label is again readying itself to be at the forefront of independent hip-hop. The year promises to be both inspired and energetic as the label preps for high profile releases from Crown Royale, One Be Lo, Keelay, Fortilive, and others.

MYX Music Label found success in 2009 with celebrated projects from Keelay & Zaire, Jern Eye, Kam Moye AKA Supastition, and the sophomore effort from D.Black, which found itself on Amazon.com's Outstanding Albums of 2009 list. The young label is prepared to continue its musical offensive in 2010 and, according to MYX founder Karim Panni, ready to "establish [itself] as one of the premier independent labels and one of the biggest producers of quality hip-hop."

Leading MYX's quest for hip-hop supremacy is Crown Royale, the duo comprised of veteran emcee Buff1 and beat junkie DJ Rhettmatic, who will be dropping an album come springtime. Audiophiles will be happy to hear that MYX is also planning on working in conjunction with Fat Beats to give the Crown Royale album the full vinyl treatment. The melodious movement continues with One Be Lo, who will be hosting a veritable 'Who's Who of Hip-Hop' party on his album due out in April, featuring lyrical stylings from the likes of Phonte of Little Brother, Jean Grae, Freeway, Zion I, Devin the Dude, Royce da 5'9", Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Kam Moye, and more.

Also keeping busy in the new year is Keelay, who, in addition to dropping a project with Bambu (formerly of Native Guns), will also be collaborating with hip-hop instrumentalists The Park and chanteuse Ragen Fykes for an album of genre-bending proportions. MYX will round out its year of sonic selections by serving up a Fortilive album produced by beat maestro !LLMind. New videos from D.Black, Kam Moye, and Jern Eye, as well as South By Southwest performances by Crown Royale, Kam Moye, One Be Lo and Jern Eye are also in the MYX this year. With this extensive slate of offerings, the MYX Music Label looks to not only realize its hopes of uniting the Bay Area in musical solidarity, but also establish itself as a hip-hop force to be reckoned with in 2010.

Crown Royale (Buff1 x DJ Rhettmatic) - We Gotcha

As Buff1 says, "We did 'We Gotcha' to let cats know we had more in store. Just a fun joint for the fans." Rhettmatic had this to say about the song: "When I made the track for "We Gotcha," it was originally made for a producer's showcase in LA where I was sharing the stage with Illmind, M-Phazes, Keelay & Zaire, and Veterano. I gave Buff1 the beat him and thus, "We Gotcha" was born. Here's a boom bap track that I hope that the DJs can appreciate. Being a DJ myself, I always try to make a track that's DJ friendly."

Below is the press release info regarding the recent signing of Crown Royale to MYX Music Label:
Bay Area-based MYX Music Label is proud to announce the signing of Crown Royale, the hip-hop duo comprised of Michigan emcee Buff1 and LA-based DJ Rhettmatic, in anticipation of their 2010 release.

The formation of Crown Royale marks a new chapter in the careers of both Buff1 and DJ Rhettmatic, and both are proud to have MYX Music involved, "I'm honored to be part of the MYX Music Label family," says Rhettmatic, "To have a company like MYX interested and excited in the music Buff and myself make is a blessing, especially during these times with only a few indie labels around." Crown Royale now joins an extensive artist roster, and are more than proud to be in the same label family as Keelay & Zaire, Jern Eye, Fortilive, Kam Moye aka Supastition, and D.Black. "They're building a strong roster and I'm proud to be associated with so many artists I respect," explains Buff, "We're blessed to have a label that believes in what we do, is a fan of what we do, and wants to join forces with us."

Karim Panni, head of MYX Music Label, believes that, "Crown Royale represents that pure hip-hop feel the game needs right now. The combination of Buff1 and DJ Rhettmatic is lethal. Rhettmatic is a good friend of mine and he approached me a year ago about the album, and once I heard some of the music, the signing was a no-brainer." I'm super excited to combine forces with A-Side Worldwide. We've both been in the indie game for a minute, and are creating what looks like a championship team." Having also recently signed emcee One Be Lo, MYX is expanding quickly and continues to affirm its spot as one of the leading independent hip-hop labels. “Buff1 and Rhettmatic is a classic combination. Crown Royale is undeniable. Both are at the top of their game right now, and I can’t wait for the world to hear this music," proclaims A-Side Worldwide President Jackson Perry, "We‘re happy to hear that MYX is just as excited about CR as we are."

Both Buff1 and DJ Rhettmatic developed their careers in hip-hop hotbeds. A native of southeast Michigan, Buff1 witnessed the golden years of the Detroit scene - an influence that's instantly recognizable in his polished cadence. Buff's two solo records, Pure and There's Only One, define his style over a decade-long run of touring and recording. Working as part of the septet Athletic Mic League (AML), Buff has gone on to be commended as part of URB's NEXT 100. A couple thousand miles away, Rhettmatic was absorbing the hip-hop Mecca that is southern California. He has worked with legendary DJ crew Beat Junkies, hip-hop group The Visionaries, and spun for Cypress Hill, Talib Kweli, the late J Dilla, and a stack of Stones Throw artists. After finally connecting through Now On member DJ Haircut (Mayer Hawthorne) and Jackson Perry, Rhettmatic and Buff instantly realized their chemistry, adoration for each other's work, and decided a collaboration was needed. Look for more from Crown Royale as they plan their debut 2010 release.
