Rawkus 50 Presents: Custom Made - Truth Be Told
MySpaceCustom Made is on a mission to bring back L.A. hip-hop. And while Truth Be Told might set them up to do just that, it does so with a heavy East coast influence. First track, “Where It Goes Down”, is full of angry energy, each MC spitting their rhyme like its their last over heavy drums and lilting piano lines. It’s a song that would sound more at home on 36 Chambers than Straight Outta Compton. “Gutta Rap” slows things down, letting the rap group get more confessional without losing any of their venom. What makes Custom Made’s music distinctly West coast it its tales of life in L.A. And while the picture they paint isn’t a new one—drugs, gangs, violence—it is delivered with a healthy dose of both worry and love for the place Custom Made calls home.

Custom Made - Original Dynasty
MySpaceDubbed a cross between N.W.A., Mobb Deep & The Wu-Tang Clan, Custom Made is a buzzing West Coast collective/movement consisting of some of LA’s most renowned up and coming emcees.
Formed in 2003 (though their ties began during their days as high school classmates) the group originally consisted of Sinister Six, Bluff, Element, Skandalous Scoobs and Aneek.
After the release of their 2004 debut, “L.A. State of Mind,” Six found himself incarcerated, but the movement persisted through Custom Made’s renowned “Street Cinema” mixtape series. 2006 saw Custom Made inking with indie powerhouse Babygrande Records and the debut offering “Sidewalk Mindtalk: The Best of The Custom Made Mixtapes,” a collection of gems from their prolific mixtape series, garnered critical raves within the independent circuit. Most recently, Custom Made has garnered support from LA’s renowned mixtape DJ DJ Warrior as well as recently appearing on LA’s Power 106 Wake Up Show.
Seminal hip-hop brand Rawkus recently bestowed upon Custom Made Rawkus Next 50 honors, designating the group/collective amongst the best and brightest developing acts in the independent scene.
With the sophomore offering “Original Dynasty,” Custom Made step back into the limelight, tested, resilient and poised to build upon their burgeoning legacy.

One of the best releases this year and highly slept on. This group from the West Coast have a style that could be deemed East Coast as they have been compared to early Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep. This album is their official debut on Babygrande and there sophomore release following a string of mixtape releases including one they did for Rawkus 50 last year. Trust me, you'll be giving these guys mad props after you give this a listen.
