Cool-Aide (MiC K!NG x Chum) feat. Slug - Snake Oil

MiC K!NG (formerly iCON the Mic King) and Demigodz producer Chum join forces once again, this time under their new duo name Cool-Aide and have released their debut project, Flavor Ade. The album has minimal features, but when you have appearances from Slug (of Atmosphere), eLZHi (of Slum Village), and Philadelphia's best kept secret, Has-Lo, you're sure to grab the attention of a very large audience. I'm actually very surprised there isn't more of a buzz surrounding this project. From the sounds of the joints I've previewed so far it's sounding like one of the top fourth quarter albums of this year. Anyways, hopefully the tracks below will grab someone's attention and help the album get the proper shine/support it deserves. Flavor Ade is available now on iTunes via Master Works Unlimited/Fake Four Inc.

iCON the Mic King feat. Awar - Fall From Grace (Music Video)

iCON the Mic King returns to film with the release of his second video from his latest project, Headphone Classics. The music video for the track "Fall From Grace" begins with a violent iCON armed at a murder scene, setting the tone for the rest of the video. Guest emcee Awar, who was also featured in the first track and video from Headphone Classics, joins in on the action with his own dose of getaways, gunshots, and aggressive rhymes. iCON looks to bring all the metaphors of the track to life, highlighted by his 'fall from grace' depicted by his suicide. The video wraps up with the murderous Mic King leaving his calling card: a king of clubs. Look for more of iCON's material in the Headphone Classics series.

iCON the Mic King feat. Awar - Drifting With The Tide (Music Video)

Following the first track from his new series Headphone Classics, iCON the Mic King returns with the video for "Drifting With The Tide." iCON and guest artist Awar, who recently signed with iCON's new label, Master Works Unlimited, rap to the track while roaming alongside the water they so frequently refer to in the chorus. Between riding in a car and wrestling each other into the water, iCON and Awar take a straight-up hip-hop approach, facing the viewer head-on to deliver their message. As we move from alongside a waterfall to above the clouds, it's hypnotizing to hear "Drifting With The Tide" bumping along to so many gorgeous shots. "Drifting With The Tide" is produced by Vanderslice, who has previously produced for Sean Price, Jedi Mind Tricks, and more and is also signed to Master Works Unlimited. Matt Hobbs directed the video.

iCON the Mic King feat. Chum - Mike & The FaTman LP

MySpace

The LP is a collaboration between North Philadelphia emcee iCON The Mic King, and Eastern Connecticut producer Chum The Skrilla Guerilla. The album borrows its title from the 80's TV series 'Jake and the Fatman', and although it doesn't stay fused to the theme too strongly, after you've heard the album it won't matter.

One thing that became apparent to me upon listening to this is how much iCON has grown since the 'Intricate Spectrum EP'. His delivery and flow are more polished, witnessed as he effortlessly cuts through each track on this album. Of course iCON doesn't get all the credit here, Chum (best known for producing Apathy's album 'Eastern Philosophy') provides solid tracks for iCON to run around with memorable lyrics. iCON is a complete emcee. Whether you want punchlines ("I'm unbeatable, not even my memory serves me correctly"), food for thought ("Here she is homeless, former smoker and battered wife/ Yeah her appetite for love, and hope is magnified/ She's broke but not broken, life pumps under her skin/ A businessman spits in her hands, "Change comes from within"/ With that saliva in her palms/ And delight in her heart/ She prayed "For your sake I hope you know how right that you are"), storytelling (See 'Mike and the Fatman'), or just good old-fashioned bragging ("When God met me he went through an identity crisis"), he's got all bases covered. So to the end this review I'm going to quote one more line from him, if you find yourself in agreeance, odds are you'll like this album too...

"In my world if you suck, it's a sin to emcee."
