Jern Eye feat. Spank Pops & J. Billion - Cali (Prod. by Jake One) (Music Video)

The left coast comes correct in Jern Eye's new video for Bay Area anthem "Cali." The song features Jern, along with veteran emcee Spank Pops and star on the rise J. Billion, riding the waves of an infectious Jake One beat and trading verses bursting with hometown pride. Now, director Lorezno Escalante, also one of the visionaries behind Jern's "Beautiful" video, brings the neck-snapper to life. "We filmed 'Cali' entirely in San Francisco to give viewers a perspective of the city in California we represent," says Jern. And what a perspective it is. Viewers are treated to a visual tour of the city, as the camera captures performances at iconic locations such as AT&T Ball Park, Treasure Island and Haight Street, while the golden state's picturesque coastline fills out the rest of the video. Shooting was done guerrilla style at times, which inevitably resulted in close encounters of the amusing kind, as Jern explained that filming at Treasure Island caused a stir amongst some of Bay Area's finest. "The local Gestapo were not too happy about it," says Jern with a smile. Be that as it may, there's nothing to be unhappy about with the final product, as Jern & Co. throw down an auditory and visual tribute to their hometown that everyone can be proud of.

D.Black feat. Tiffany Wilson - Touch The Stars (Prod. by Jake One)

D.Black once again teams up with producer Jake One to create the next addition to his album Ali' Yah. "Touch the Stars," which serves as the bonus track on the Seattle emcee's forthcoming LP, combines D.Black's soulful flow and inspiring lyrical work and Jake One's epic production with a secret ingredient. Tiffany Wilson's sweet, yet powerful voice is the perfect addition to this track, creating an uplifting sensation as she comes in to sing the chorus. D.Black makes this sensation even more potent with the uplifting message implanted within his own lyrics, while Jake succeeds in taking it a step further with a powerful, also uplifting, musical progression.

Speaking on the concept behind the track, D.Black says, "This song was for the brethren who have lacked the power of boldness, to defy the grumbling of a world who is against them and carry out the divine call. The call, to touch stars which sit in the midst of dark skies." D.Black's sophomore album title Ali' Yah is Hebrew for "to ascend." The message within this song inspires people to stand up, to ascend and to touch the stars.

D.Black - The Return (Prod. by Jake One)

Seattle emcee D.Black returns with the track "The Return" from his forthcoming album, Ali'Yah. Produced by the renowned Jake One, "The Return" is a proclamation of a track, announcing the impending, D.Black-assisted return of real hip-hop. D.Black also believes "The Return" is a more complex challenge, "There's a lot of boasting and glorifying negativity in rap these days. I kind of wanted to boast the positive things, the "sport" that life has to offer. I think that even in a song like 'The Return', where I challenge others to reassess their rap content, it also challenges the listener to think about the trashy music they're listening to. The goal is to make it hurt you deep if your on the wrong side of the sword." A hybrid of hip-hop styles backs up D.Black's argument, as Jake One mixes a ?uestlove-like ultra-laid back drumbeat, large string sections, fine guitar licks, and a little Jay-Z sample for added flavor. Be sure to check out "The Return" and the rest of Ali'Yah when it drops September 15th on Sportn' Life Records/MYX Music Label.
