Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone
as we’re approaching this new year, I felt it was time to let go of some things that have been gathering dust. Some old things, and some new things, I tried to pick out tracks that I know yall haven’t heard yet so there should be surprises around every turn. Can’t believe I’ve been making tracks for over 10 years now..That said, there’s so much to learn still. I hope you all enjoy this mix. Thanks to the Gaslamp Killer for doing an incredible job on this. Can’t wait for you all to hear my album ‘Cosmogramma’ coming out April 20th 2010 on Warp Records.
Enjoy

The Revival gives a candid glimpse into the first meeting of legendary Hip-Hop pioneer Roxanne Shante and veteran Philly emcee Bahamadia, as they trade stories of their struggles and triumphs in the industry over their long careers. It shows the exchange of lessons between them and up-and-coming artists DJ Shortee, Eternia, Stacy Epps, and Invincible. This short documentary, a collage of performances and behind the scenes footage, was filmed by Invincible while on the road in Europe as part of We-B Girlz all women independent Hip-Hop tour. The largest all female Hip-Hop tour of its kind, it spanned over three weeks, six countries, and featured dozens of female artists who performed for tens of thousands of supporters.
It's been a year to the day since Silent Knight released his album Holla Burton (The UnMixed Cassette) to the world. Funny how much can change in the music industry over the course of 365 days, yet the album sounds just as fresh today as the day it was released.
With Silent Knight in rare form on the mic and production from the likes of 9th Wonder, Illmind, Jake One, Analogic, Oddisee & M-Phazes to name a few, fans & critics alike have touted Holla Burton as his best release to date.
Bloodlust 2 is the definitive MarQ Spekt record. A step above everything released thus far. This project features the reclusive veteran rhyming along side some of his generations finest MC's including Karniege, Messiah, Vordul Mega, Sean Price, J-Live, Stahhr the Empress, Thirstin Howl 3rd, Broady Champs, C-Rayz Walz, John Robinson, Skit Slam, Dynas and more.
Those who have followed the "Broady Champ" since the late 90's and kept your eyes to the ground during Spekt's J..D. Salinger-esque hiatus from the game, finally have what they have been waiting for. Bloodlust 2 is a labor of love and the first album to hand anyone who wants to know what he MarQ Spekt is about. Barbwire rhymes, scrunch your face up verses, the "grilchiness" that you've been missing.
A lot of variety and styles on this mixtape, yet it serves as only an appetizer to two upcoming Spekt solo projects The Scalpel and Persona Non Grata as well as follow up Broady Champs, Invizzibl Men and random verses scattered throughout 2010. The Future of Hip Hop comes from someone with a deep grasp of that grimy 90's era. This is Hoody music, anti tight jeans, bringing back some testosterone to the game.
Chances are, if you've been looking at the countless "Best of 2009" lists that are popping up on blogs left and right, you've been reminded of just how awesome Tanya Morgan's Brooklynati was, and how it figured on your personal soundtrack this year. The album has been absolutely everywhere- ranking among the year's best according to Amazon.com, AllMusic.com, The Village Voice, The Onion AV Club, PopMatters.com, TheUrbanDaily.com, and several others. Well, in the name of Brooklynatian civic pride and the holiday spirit, Tanya Morgan emcees Von Pea, Donwill, and Ilyas are dropping a stocking stuffer on you just in time to liven up your holiday parties, the Brooklynati Sample Mix. A fascinating listen for both fans of Brooklynati and aspiring producers, the Sample Mix is a breakdown of the samples used by emcee/producer Von Pea on the groundbreaking 2009 original.
The mixtape has been under wraps for quite a while now- producer/emcee Von Pea explains: "When we were working on the album I put together this list of songs but never planned on sharing it with anyone. Just a week ago that changed because I was listening to some of my favorite sampled songs and wanted to give people a chance to hear some of the stuff we use." Von Pea thinks the tracks are strong enough to engage even a listener who has never heard Brooklynati (perish the thought). "It's a collection of good music regardless. I believe I would enjoy it even if I'd never heard Brooklynati, but it would definitely make me check Brooklynati out afterwards."
Between August 2008 to August 2009, Mochilla and VTech brought you an exceptional array of musical events that pushed the boundaries of today’s music. Ethiopian jazz, Colombian Funk, Brasilian Folk, Jazz, fusion and Hip-Hop - where elders met with youth, where every idea is good, where mistakes are just part of the process and where the audience is the judge.
In "Hear The World," Eric Coleman (Mochilla), mixes the very best musical moments of the year into one completely exclusive mix CD taken from the recordings made.
Where else could you experience the music of Exile, Mulatu, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and the Suite for Ma Dukes Orchestra, Arthur Verocai, Azymuth, Quantic and his Combo Barbaro, Karriem Riggins, Jackson Conti, and more all on one album? The answer is nowhere but on The Sounds of VTech.
I just wanted to get this collection of music/beats out to everybody as a seasons greetings, something to vibe to as you do whatever it is you do at this time of the holidays. All of the music below was created by myself, and some of the most amazing musicians I know, The Park and Nate Mercereau. We all have a couple projects coming together very soon and this is just a little sample of what it is going to sound like. – Keelay
Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique (www.burnrubberdetroit.com) and Acapulco Gold (www.runmygame.com) have teamed up to create the "Detroit Riots" collaborative capsule. Both companies are known for creating designs that start conversations, create debates and educate the masses all at the same time. The Detroit Riot series was inspired by the city’s Riots of 1967, that occurred as a direct result of many of the ills that are plaguing our society today like a troubled economy, high unemployment rate, police brutality, dissatisfaction with social conditions and the rapid population decline in many urban areas. The Detroit Riots series brings light to how far we’ve come as a society but also shows how close we are to repeating history if issues are not only addressed but corrected.
To commemorate this collaboration Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold reached out to eight emcees: Ro Spit, One Be Lo, T3, Phatboy Chef, Marv Won, Buff 1, Fatt Father, and Fat Ray) out of Michigan to contribute a verse to a song produced by Black Milk and inspired by the Riots of 67. In addition to the song they have also created a website (detroitriots.burnrubberdetroit.com) where you will find ring tones, wallpapers and more information about the project that releases on December 26, 2009.
This mixtape/sampler was produced because I (Meta) am broke as fuck!! I recently received an eviction notice, so that’s what sparked this project. You people can at least give me the pleasure of enjoying my music, hence the free download! Spread the word. We need this to be major! Maybe it could lead to me eating again.
"Living Out A State of Mind Pt. 2" is the 2nd single off DJ K.O.’s upcoming EP, Living Out A State of Mind Vol. 2, which again pairs up the two original Elementality members: Silent Knight & Analogic. Picking up where Pt. 1 left off, the track continues to document the story of Elementality. Pt. 2 goes back to the days of 2005 where SK, Analogic & DJ K.O. were beginning to establish themselves in the industry.
Keeping with the traditional formatting of the vinyl days, we’ve got a "B-Side" to liberate for this new Digital 12″. While some are becoming familiar with DaveNotti as a producer, "Destroy" introduces the world to him as an emcee. He’s assisted on the boards by fellow Portland, OR resident Hi-Res. The track can be found on their EP, The New Chill. If you happen to sleep on it, don’t worry you can grab a link to download it HERE.

Beginning in the winter of 2008, emcee Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis both of Seattle, WA linked up to create their debut EP entitled "VS," based off an idea to sample relevant contemporary bands. After a couple of successful single song leaks, here is the entire EP for full download for everyone to enjoy.
A world-famous DJ with active memberships in Dilated Peoples and Beat Junkies among his most notable accomplishments, DJ Babu has made a noteworthy evolution. The Los Angeles-based turntablist also stands as one of underground rap’s fastest-rising producers.
In 2007, DJ Babu released The Beat Tape Vol.1, an instrumental compilation of the beatsmith’s soulful yet hard hitting compositions. It’s also been 1-year since Babu released the critically acclaimed Duck Season Vol. 3. A self produced album that boasted tracks from MCs all across the globe. At the beginning of 2010, the Dilated Junkie comes forth with the instrumental follow up, The Beat Tape Vol. 2, which will be released on 2-23-10 on Nature Sounds Records.
"There was no holding back with this album, I wanted to get the beats out no matter what. I wanted to give my fans a fresh body of music" explains DJ Babu. "My mission with these instrumentals are to put some doubters to rest." For having 10+ years of production experience under his belt, most people know Babu as the World Renown / Champion DJ. "I want people to know my sound, all my beats come from a DJ mentality, so the beat Tape is a great outlet for me to showcase my production."
A West Coast veteran in his own right, Babu has achieved a sound that can’t be labeled by region or style. This album could be equally appreciated in the Bronx, Compton or anywhere in between. The Beat Tape Vol. 2 is a treat for all the true B-Boy’s out there and a testament to the fact that hip-hop’s golden era is alive and well and as Babu concludes the vine between the golden era and today is still deeply rooted "a lot of the DJs that I looked up to became great producers, from Dr. Dre to DJ Premier to Pete Rock. In a lot of ways, I’m trying to carry that same torch, where hip-hop is still rooted within DJing and records."

Fans and skeptics alike will see a wide range of emotion, depth of character, and full spectrum of what Hip-Hop music can be.
