Making his debut on HiPNOTT Records, here’s the first single off Cymarshall Law’s upcoming EP, Creator’s Kid. "Harder Than Thou" is the first track off the EP and features DJ JS-1 on the cuts. Look out for the video dropping next month, as well as the whole EP on January 19, 2010.
The cavalcade of songs and artists that appear on DJ JS-1's latest album, No Sell Out: Ground Original 2, comes to a head on the record's finale of a track, "Brainbender." Clocking in at over five and a half minutes, "Brainbender" is the longest song on the album - a fact JS attributes to the four verses he wanted to feature, "The song has four verses. It's long and just the way I like it, not the way most people do it. I got Kool Keith to say a classic Ultra line 'I'm sending brains are bending' for the chorus, which kind of holds true when people listen to something like this." Joining Kool Keith on the track are fellow guest artists Ced Gee (collectively half of Ultramagnetic MCs), Canibus, Prince Poetry, and Rahzel. From the straight-ahead backbeat to the upbeat verses, all the featured emcees are supported by an extraordinary amount of classic DJ moves, as JS-1 scratches in almost every space possible. NO SELLOUT: Ground Original 2 is now available via Fat Beat Records.
When making an album like DJ JS-1's new album, No Sell Out, to say a lot of hard work was involved is an understatement. JS-1 was clearly up to the task, and three years, 21 tracks, and nearly 40 artist appearances after getting started, DJ JS-1 is proud to bring the masses his new album.
Before the album’s official June 23 release date, JS-1 wants to give fans a preview of what he's worked so hard to complete, and is doing so with the release of an official album sampler featuring a mix of the album's many great songs. Putting on full display the DJ skills that JS-1 built the foundation of his career on, the sampler cuts deftly from track to track, giving fans just enough to have them begging for more.
Queens, New York native DJ JS-1 will release his latest solo project No Sell Out on June 23rd via Fat Beats Records. The album, recorded as an addendum to his previous solo effort Ground Original, comprises 21 tracks and features nearly 40 artists.
JS-1 has been a recognized name in the DJ circuit since the late 80's and has since made his mark in the hip-hop industry with numerous production credits, single releases, mixtapes, and television appearances. Throughout his career, JS-1 has gathered an extensive and impressive network of industry names. With his new album No Sell Out, a career's worth of hard work is on full display, with JS-1 obtaining features from a who's-who of hip-hop royalty, past, present, and future. For the past three years, JS-1 has been hard at work putting together No Sell Out, and that hard work will finally pay off on June 23rd, when the album is released to the masses via Fat Beats Records.
No Sell Out, a title referencing JS-1's desire to create records according to personal taste despite current mainstream direction, is most notable for its extensive list of guest artists, including KRS-ONE, Large Pro, Pharoahe Monch, Canibus, Sean Price, Blaq Poet, Killah Priest, Ill Bill, Kool Keith & Ced Gee (Ultramagnetic Mc's), Aesop Rock, Vast Aire, Chino XL, Sadat X, AG, OC, Craig G, CL Smooth, Edo G, Prince Po, Akrobatik, J-Live, Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, Rakaa of Dilated Peoples, Krondon, C Rayz Walz, Vast Aire, Nutrageous, Copywrite, PMD, Rahzel, EMC (Masta Ace, Strick, Wordsworth, Punchline), Termanology, Torae, Pumpkinhead, Jak D, Big Noyd, Q-Unique, Brother Ali, Slaine, Virtuoso, Pack FM, Supastition. Block McCloud, Trez, Rugged Intellect, and DJ Premier. Having so many talented and respected artists on one album is amazing. Coordinating all these artists at once can prove quite difficult, and was, in fact, one of JS-1's greatest challenges. JS-1 says, "Doing an album like this with over 40 emcees on it, is not easy," says JS-1. "Between myself being on tour, the featured artists being on tour, emailing files, meeting people at studios, trying to coordinate what beats to use, making everyone happy, agreeing on the concepts, and then fitting in the hooks, it is not something that gets done quickly. A lot of this album was pieced together over the past 3 years."
Over his illustrious career, JS-1 has worked with a large number of artists, including Common, Will Smith & Jazzy Jeff, Immortal Technique, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Dilated Peoples, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, Pharoahe Monch, Planet Asia, Ill Bill, Royce Da 5'9, Akrobatik, Sadat X, Brand Nubian, Kool Keith, Canibus, and Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks. In addition to his production work, JS has shared the stage with a wide variety of artists, such as 50 Cent, RUN DMC, Maroon 5, Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Redman & Method Man, Wyclef, OAR, Dashboard Confessional, Snoop Dogg, All American Rejects, Mike Patton, and many more. For the past three years, since the release of his previous album, JS-1 has stayed busy touring, producing, making high-profile TV appearances, and completing his new album. The result is an album that displays JS-1's excellent production and DJ abilities, and will serve to make DJ JS-1 a household name for all within the hip-hop community. No Sell Out is available June 23rd on Fat Beats Records.
