Deep Rooted feat. Sha Dula - The End (Prod. by Rhettmatic)

San Diego based sextet, Deep Rooted, spices up their latest soulful hip-hop track with a featured verse from emcee Sha Dula, and production from Rhettmatic. A catchy piano line paired with a serene vocal melody establishes the track's sentimental tone, as it continues behind Rhettmatic's laid-back yet powerful beat. Separating the poetic, flowing verses coming to you from the group's emcees and their guest, Sha Dula, Deep Rooted's wildcard, songstress Just Brea sings the soulful melodic hook, "We've come to the end of the road/ It's been a long time coming." The last verse features DJ Artistic with a scratch solo, bringing the track to a close. This track's medley of talent is not something to be overlooked. Check out the latest release, the self-titled D.E.E.P. R.O.O.T.E.D. out now on Clear Label Records.

Hardcore Gentlemen - Hardcore Gentlemen (Music Video)

During the golden years of hip-hop, no group was more appreciated on their home turf than Brooklynati's own Hardcore Gentlemen. The trifecta of gangster Rapz Kaotic, dealer Reefer Sutherland, and OG Killah Silk was unparalleled. This was the heyday of the label, however, and major success doomed the group, who went from corner store legends to one-hit wonders in just a couple years. After this platinum single and the LP Rugged & Smooth (DJ Jurx Records, 1994) hit gold status, success dried up for the Gentlemen, as the follow-up "Brush Ya Teef Wit It" was quickly dismissed.

This, however, is the original 1994 joint resurfaced; the self-titled "Hardcore Gentlemen" single. Described as, "one minute and foty-fo seconds of the best straight-from-the-street hip-hop," by the original owner of Brooklynati's Village Lounge, the single defined the group and put Brooklynati on the map. This set the stage for rappers of the future, most notably Brooklynati revivalists Tanya Morgan, whose latest release, the aptly-titled Brooklynati, has brought hip-hop back to the city. From Reefer's polished squawk to Silk's dirty beat, "Hardcore Gentlemen" will serve as the "Things Done Changed" of Brooklynati for years to come.

One Be Lo Signs With MYX Music Label

Bay Area-based MYX Music Label is proud to announce the signing of One Be Lo for his newest album, B.A.B.Y. The album, set for a February 2010 release, includes features from Royce Da 5'9, Freeway, Zion I, Phonte, Jean Grae, and more.

The partnership with the Bay Area label is a new step for One Be Lo, and one the Pontiac, Michigan emcee looks forward to. One Be Lo says, "I'm excited to get MYX Music Label involved with this next album - it already feels more like a family than a business. I've recorded and toured with Karim in the past, so I know he understands the artist perspective. MYX is an up-and-coming label that understands how to market records in today's media." One Be Lo's new album, B.A.B.Y. (an acronym meaning Being A Black Youth), is not only autobiographical of the rapper as a youth in Pontiac Michigan, but focuses on the many experiences in school, amongst peers, family, the army, crime, and much more all across America, and is a multi-media project encompassing music, film, books, clothing, and toys.

For MYX Music Label head Karim Panni, signing One Be Lo is also an exciting development and a welcome addition as the label continues to assert itself as one of the premier, rising independent hip-hop labels. Panni says, "We're honored to be able to add One Be Lo to the MYX Music Label squad. B.A.B.Y. is a gigantic record, and Lo is making the most important music of his career. His grind and track record speaks for itself. We're really trying to build up a roster of people making great music - hip-hop that can stand the test of time. Music that makes a difference, and One Be Lo fits that mold."

By boycotting Israel, we are also boycotting repressive police tactics in our cities and on our borders.”

To celebrate Inside A Change winning the Best Film Award at the 2009 HBO NYILFF, Skillz, Usef Dinero and DJ Jazzy Jeff put this joint together for the soundtrack. The original concept for the video was to create literal interpretations of Skillz’ lyrics that have to do with the characters in the film. However, that sort of morphed into straight up performance shots where we followed Skillz around various locations during his tour and intercutting it with abstract b roll shots. It was a blast shooting this video and big huge shoutout to Skillz for supporting this film since day one. Enjoy!

Apathy feat. Phonte - True Love

Connecticut's world famous rhyme wrecker returns with a warm hug and a deadly snakebite on his sophomore full length album, "Wanna Snuggle?" Apathy, known as lead MC of the indie fan favorite Demigodz clique as well as a member of Jedi Mind Tricks' Army of the Pharaohs crew, follows up 2006's well-received Babygrande Records "Eastern Philosophy" debut with a brand new masterpiece of 21 songs.

Painstaking lyricism, strangleholding mic presence, high caliber rap flows and upper echelon neck-snapping production round out his new release in true Demigodzilla fashion. Some of the highlights include the uptempo "Shoot First", which is a Mike Shinoda produced track featuring the legendary B-Real (of Cypress Hill) and Celph Titled, as well as a collaboration with J-Live called "This Is The Formula". Little Brother's own Phonte makes a cameo on "True Love", and some soulful hooks are laced across the album courtesy of Chip-Fu (of Fu-Schnickens) and Wu-Tang vocalist Blue Raspberry. Also contributing a major factor to the album is singer Holly Brook, best known for Fort Minor's chart topping "Where'd You Go" single and video. Fort Minor, Get Busy Committee, Demigodz and AOTP family are definitely in full effect throughout the project, including Ryu (of Styles of Beyond), Motive, Emilio Lopez, King Magnetic, Veze Skante and more. The bulk of production is handled by Apathy himself, who has been building up a production resume producing for Tiye Phoenix, Styles of Beyond, 7L & Esoteric, Eternia, and upcoming albums from Cypress Hill and Edo G.

Dunno much about this producer but I copped this a couple days ago and it's very very impressive, all the lyrics get a new lease of life over some super ill, Wu type production by Memory Man. It really does sound like a brand new project at times so download or purchase and bump it hard till OB4CL2 drops!!!

NOTE: The file which you download has a corrupt file (track 9) so you won't be able to extract it but the other tracks are cool, so if you really wanna hear or cop that particular track, click the purchase link!

14KT - Nowalataz LP

Check out the newest material from Lab Technician 14KT, on his most recent project, the Nowalataz LP. If you like what you hear, you can catch 14KT (along with Buff1) opening for Mayer Hawthorne this fall across the country.

Here it is… a project I unofficially had done since 2006. It started when James Yancey a.k.a. J Dilla passed that February. To cope with the death of my favorite producer, who I liked to call my unofficial “musical mentor,” I started making ‘donuts’ …uncontrollably. I never planned to release any of the material out of respect for Dilla & his craft. I’ve shared some of the music with others, in which they would repeatedly ask me to hear it, so I decided to put a little something together and make it official. JUST FOR YA’LL.

This is a collection of beats created about 3 years ago. Some ‘donuts’ style, some just around that era of 14KT beats. “Now & Laters” were always a favorite candy of mine. I used to go to Mindell’s Pharmacy in Ypsilanti back in the day and buy ALL of them. Sadly, I even stole change from my grandma’s (RIP) purse for them. They are addictive, yet fun to eat… something I found mutual when making music at the time. Ironically, I fell back in love with “Nowalataz” around this era (ask my homey Sarah “Merk Merk,” haha). Enjoy.

Swollen Members - Red Dragon

Swollen Members debut their new song "Red Dragon". The track is taken from their heavily anticipated new studio album Armed To The Teeth, which lands in stores October 13th through Suburban Noize Records and Battle Axe Records.

"Everyone growing up in the skate world knows how important Red Dragon is. They definitely have some of the best threads and skate gear out there and we’ve known Colin McKay and Sluggo for years," commented Prevail. "Swollen Members has been repping Red Dragon since the beginning and when it came time to release our first cut from ‘Armed to the Teeth’, we wanted ‘Red Dragon’ to be the first thing people heard. We also wanted the first thing people hear from this new album to be some classic Swollen Members and to have our old friend and SM-alumni Moka Only on the track." Remember this is just a first taste and the main course is heating up.

Swollen Members have risen to the top of the underground hip-hop scene with a series of classic albums that have made them one of the genre’s brightest rising stars. Founded by two of the game’s best MCs, Mad Child and Prevail, along with the help of DJ Rob The Viking, Swollen Members have created a huge fan base while staying completely independent under their own label, Battle Axe Records. Swollen had taken a break over the past few years while Mad Child dealt with drug addiction and some legal issues, but, the group has come back stronger than ever with their upcoming new studio album Armed To The Teeth, which features guest appearances from La Coka Nostra, Talib Kweli, Tech N9NE, Krondon, Saafir and Phil Tha Agony.

Dave Notti x Hi-Res - The New Chill

MySpace: Dave Notti
MySpace: Hi-Res

The New Chill is a brand new EP from Portland duo Dave Notti & Hi-Res. Notti explains it, "branches off from all of us, not just Hi-Res and myself, but [our whole crew]... just wanting to be able to chill and be cool without any of the drama. We decided on The New Chill not because of a "new crew"... but rather a "new atmosphere" - change, if you will. Our new music styles are a testament to this change as we sound nothing of our former selves." Dave also went on to explain that the concept behind the EP wasn’t too complex - "just smooth beats from Tim [Res] meets NY grittyness! All the while showing versatility with the few concepts shown in the project. We wanted to give listeners something short but sweet."

01. Nebula Connection
02. Go Gettas (Come N' Get It Reprise)
03. Hesitation
04. Jealous
05. The New Chill
06. TheShoDown feat. Dain (Bonus)
