Naeem Oba & Brikabrak - I Don't Know (Prod. by King Karnov)

Built upon a beat laid down by King Karnov, the track, "I Don't Know," centers on Naeem Oba's rhymes, and Brikabrak's dexterous turntable work. The track is slated to appear as a bonus cut on Oba's forthcoming King and I EP and on an impending mixtape alongside songs from much higher profile artists that Karnov has worked with such as Busta Rhymes, RZA, GZA and Raekwon, among others. According to Brik, the cuts will be blended into a seamless mix by another local up-and-comer, DJ Ear Attent. You Are Not One of Us, meanwhile, the first release from Brikabrak and Oba, which is halfway completed, will follow, as will a full-length from the former, titled The Unorthodox, a hip-hop recreation of George Orwell's 1984.

Cymarshall Law & DJ Omega - The Creator's Craft Mix CD

Cymarshall Law has yet to put out a project I didn't like, whether it be a full-length album or mixtape. From the looks of the production credits and featured artists, this may possibly be one of his best releases yet.

Cymarshall Law's Creator’s Craft Mix CD is a mix of unreleased and new songs and freestyles, which were recorded or released in 2009.

The project features guest appearances from Sean Price, Sha Stimuli, One Be Lo, Skit Slam, Phil Adé, E. Ness and Block McCloud, with original production by Mr. Joeker, Abnormal, DJ Rhettmatic and more.

Presented by 2DopeBoyz.com, KevinNottingham.com & Coast2Coast Mixtapes, Cy’s Creator’s Craft Mix CD is a prelude to three full-length LP’s (Creator’s KID EP, Freedom Express Line and Everliven Sound: Freedom 2) that Cy currently has scheduled to drop in 2010.

Silent Knight - Holla Burton (The Unmixed Cassette)

I played the shit out of this album throughout the first quarter of the year, but admit to sleeping on it since with all the other dope music that has come out since. But thanks to DJ K.O. those who missed it, misplaced it, or simply want to cop it again now have a chance to do so.

It's been a year to the day since Silent Knight released his album Holla Burton (The UnMixed Cassette) to the world. Funny how much can change in the music industry over the course of 365 days, yet the album sounds just as fresh today as the day it was released.

With Silent Knight in rare form on the mic and production from the likes of 9th Wonder, Illmind, Jake One, Analogic, Oddisee & M-Phazes to name a few, fans & critics alike have touted Holla Burton as his best release to date.

MarQ Spekt Presents: Blood Lust Vol. 2

MySpace

I don't know a whole lot about MarQ Spekt, but I do know that the majority of artists featured on this project are dope so I'm hoping to hear good things.

Bloodlust 2 is the definitive MarQ Spekt record. A step above everything released thus far. This project features the reclusive veteran rhyming along side some of his generations finest MC's including Karniege, Messiah, Vordul Mega, Sean Price, J-Live, Stahhr the Empress, Thirstin Howl 3rd, Broady Champs, C-Rayz Walz, John Robinson, Skit Slam, Dynas and more.

Those who have followed the "Broady Champ" since the late 90's and kept your eyes to the ground during Spekt's J..D. Salinger-esque hiatus from the game, finally have what they have been waiting for. Bloodlust 2 is a labor of love and the first album to hand anyone who wants to know what he MarQ Spekt is about. Barbwire rhymes, scrunch your face up verses, the "grilchiness" that you've been missing.

A lot of variety and styles on this mixtape, yet it serves as only an appetizer to two upcoming Spekt solo projects The Scalpel and Persona Non Grata as well as follow up Broady Champs, Invizzibl Men and random verses scattered throughout 2010. The Future of Hip Hop comes from someone with a deep grasp of that grimy 90's era. This is Hoody music, anti tight jeans, bringing back some testosterone to the game.

Tanya Morgan - Brooklynati Sample Mix

Crate-diggers and beat enthusiasts alike should rejoice for this sample mix. Tanya Morgan's Brooklynati was one of the year's best hip-hop records, and I'd say a large part of its success came from the high quality production from MC/producer Von Pea. Read more about the mix below...

Chances are, if you've been looking at the countless "Best of 2009" lists that are popping up on blogs left and right, you've been reminded of just how awesome Tanya Morgan's Brooklynati was, and how it figured on your personal soundtrack this year. The album has been absolutely everywhere- ranking among the year's best according to Amazon.com, AllMusic.com, The Village Voice, The Onion AV Club, PopMatters.com, TheUrbanDaily.com, and several others. Well, in the name of Brooklynatian civic pride and the holiday spirit, Tanya Morgan emcees Von Pea, Donwill, and Ilyas are dropping a stocking stuffer on you just in time to liven up your holiday parties, the Brooklynati Sample Mix. A fascinating listen for both fans of Brooklynati and aspiring producers, the Sample Mix is a breakdown of the samples used by emcee/producer Von Pea on the groundbreaking 2009 original.

The mixtape has been under wraps for quite a while now- producer/emcee Von Pea explains: "When we were working on the album I put together this list of songs but never planned on sharing it with anyone. Just a week ago that changed because I was listening to some of my favorite sampled songs and wanted to give people a chance to hear some of the stuff we use." Von Pea thinks the tracks are strong enough to engage even a listener who has never heard Brooklynati (perish the thought). "It's a collection of good music regardless. I believe I would enjoy it even if I'd never heard Brooklynati, but it would definitely make me check Brooklynati out afterwards."

The newest leak "Don't Try", is a crossover type song which may appeal to indie hip hop fans and indie rock fans alike. It features a simple but really strong beat produced by Equalibrum with an infectious hook that gets stuck in your head. Burn Rubber & Acalpoco Gold Present: Detroit Riots (T3, Buff1, Ro Spit, Fat Ray, One Be Lo, Marv Won, Fatt Father & Phatboy Chef) (Prod. by Black Milk)

Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique (www.burnrubberdetroit.com) and Acapulco Gold (www.runmygame.com) have teamed up to create the "Detroit Riots" collaborative capsule. Both companies are known for creating designs that start conversations, create debates and educate the masses all at the same time. The Detroit Riot series was inspired by the city’s Riots of 1967, that occurred as a direct result of many of the ills that are plaguing our society today like a troubled economy, high unemployment rate, police brutality, dissatisfaction with social conditions and the rapid population decline in many urban areas. The Detroit Riots series brings light to how far we’ve come as a society but also shows how close we are to repeating history if issues are not only addressed but corrected.

To commemorate this collaboration Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold reached out to eight emcees: Ro Spit, One Be Lo, T3, Phatboy Chef, Marv Won, Buff 1, Fatt Father, and Fat Ray) out of Michigan to contribute a verse to a song produced by Black Milk and inspired by the Riots of 67. In addition to the song they have also created a website (detroitriots.burnrubberdetroit.com) where you will find ring tones, wallpapers and more information about the project that releases on December 26, 2009.

DJ K.O. - Living Out A State of Mind Pt. 2 b/w Destroy

"Living Out A State of Mind Pt. 2" is the 2nd single off DJ K.O.’s upcoming EP, Living Out A State of Mind Vol. 2, which again pairs up the two original Elementality members: Silent Knight & Analogic. Picking up where Pt. 1 left off, the track continues to document the story of Elementality. Pt. 2 goes back to the days of 2005 where SK, Analogic & DJ K.O. were beginning to establish themselves in the industry.

Keeping with the traditional formatting of the vinyl days, we’ve got a "B-Side" to liberate for this new Digital 12″. While some are becoming familiar with DaveNotti as a producer, "Destroy" introduces the world to him as an emcee. He’s assisted on the boards by fellow Portland, OR resident Hi-Res. The track can be found on their EP, The New Chill. If you happen to sleep on it, don’t worry you can grab a link to download it HERE.

Emcee Gold, one of the Sandpeople members, had this to say on the creation of the track "I pictured the record as being one part "an ode to" and one part "our take on the concept". I figured we should embellish on the lines that made the song so timeless and with sapient singing the hook it brought everything full circle." Mission accomplished.

It's with the green light from one of Detroit's Hip-Hop ambassadors to the World, HouseShoes, that producer DaveNotti brings a remix of "Make'em NV" by J Dilla to the masses. The track was originally released back in 2003 on Jay Dee's Ruff Draft EP and later re-released by Stones Throw in 2007.

When Elementality Productions CEO, DJ K.O., asked DaveNotti why he wanted to remix one of J Dilla's tracks he replied, "Who didn't like Ruff Draft?!?! While all the beats on it were dope enough to not need ANY remixes, I definitely wanted to take a swing at it." He continued to add, "For those wondering, this acapella was DIY'ed by yours truly."

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx - Pre-eXXecution (Video + Audio)

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx have combined forces to bring fans a serious dose of hardcore hip hop. The eXXecution is entirely produced by Marco Polo with Ruste Juxx providing gut-wrenching vocals over heavy hitting drums. Marco Polo explains that a "simple studio session to play beats turned into Ruste Juxx recording 9 songs. The joints came out so crazy that we said let's turn this into a full-length album. Working with Duck Down all these years it was only a matter of time before Juxx and I got to a specific project. The best part is the work happened organically. Nothing was forced. Ruste came through, heard beats, wrote, recorded...done deal. March 23rd is The eXXecution!"

The album, which is being finished in the studio before the new year, features Buckshot, Sean Price, Freddie Foxxx, Rock of Heltah Skeltah & DJ Revolution with additional guests to be confirmed.

DJ Babu - Lil' Juanito

A world-famous DJ with active memberships in Dilated Peoples and Beat Junkies among his most notable accomplishments, DJ Babu has made a noteworthy evolution. The Los Angeles-based turntablist also stands as one of underground rap’s fastest-rising producers.

In 2007, DJ Babu released The Beat Tape Vol.1, an instrumental compilation of the beatsmith’s soulful yet hard hitting compositions. It’s also been 1-year since Babu released the critically acclaimed Duck Season Vol. 3. A self produced album that boasted tracks from MCs all across the globe. At the beginning of 2010, the Dilated Junkie comes forth with the instrumental follow up, The Beat Tape Vol. 2, which will be released on 2-23-10 on Nature Sounds Records.

"There was no holding back with this album, I wanted to get the beats out no matter what. I wanted to give my fans a fresh body of music" explains DJ Babu. "My mission with these instrumentals are to put some doubters to rest." For having 10+ years of production experience under his belt, most people know Babu as the World Renown / Champion DJ. "I want people to know my sound, all my beats come from a DJ mentality, so the beat Tape is a great outlet for me to showcase my production."

A West Coast veteran in his own right, Babu has achieved a sound that can’t be labeled by region or style. This album could be equally appreciated in the Bronx, Compton or anywhere in between. The Beat Tape Vol. 2 is a treat for all the true B-Boy’s out there and a testament to the fact that hip-hop’s golden era is alive and well and as Babu concludes the vine between the golden era and today is still deeply rooted "a lot of the DJs that I looked up to became great producers, from Dr. Dre to DJ Premier to Pete Rock. In a lot of ways, I’m trying to carry that same torch, where hip-hop is still rooted within DJing and records."

Strong Arm Steady feat. Phonte - Best Of Times (Prod. by Madlib)

In Search of Stoney Jackson is produced entirely by Madlib, longtime friend of Phil Da Agony and extended Strong Arm Steady family. The album’s conception owes a great deal to World Famous Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, who provided the trio with close to 200 of the Madlib the Beat Konducta’s tracks to choose from. Strong Arm Steady had previously rapped over Madlib productions on the Madlib and Talib Kweli Liberation album, but this full-length marks a long-desired collaboration between the four. It’s a hip-hop jam session, with the group acting as the rhythm section for an all-star cast of guest vocalists such as Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Chace Infinite, and Phonte of Little Brother. Dres (of Black Sheep) - Road Warrior (Music Video Teaser)

The "Road Warrior" video revolves around the subject matter of the track itself: the depth of Dres' experience as a touring artist and how hard he's had to work to get where he is. From the studio to the stage, "Road Warrior" is proof that Dres has paid his dues. The track features a typically hot beat, once again proving Dres' outstanding ear for production, which allows Dres to showcase his skills. The beat would be a handful for most emcees, but Dres makes himself at home in its warbling sparseness, matching the beat with his own take on road life. "Lyrically I wanted to be sparse, like a road trip" says Dres. "Showing a little bit of everything in passing, as well as illustrating the premise that my music travels the world and blows up spots wherever it lands. The new music has me curious as to what the future holds, and this track mirrors all of these things."

This clip is a compelling look at the life of road warrior artists in general, and Dres in particular. The EP From the Black Pool of Genius: The Prelude was released December 1st, and will be followed by the full length From the Black Pool of Genius in March 2010.

New Black Milk!

These tracks were sent to my e-mail just a few minutes ago and I feel like Christmas is already here. Although my neck is sore from nodding to these vicious beats, I couldn't ask for a better way to end my evening. I have yet to see these posted anywhere online, so I've decided to refrain from making them available for download just yet. Enough of me, enjoy the beats and be on the lookout for Random Axe, hopefully coming soon! EDIT: Had to bring this heat back to the top. I feel bad for anyone sleeping on Black Milk.

The Day Laborers - The Learning Process

MySpace

Joining the lineage of other prolific Long Island hip hop pioneers such as Rakim, EPMD, De La Soul and Public Enemy. Lyricists I.N.F. and Aspect are collectively known as The Day Laborers. A duo who have spent years building a buzz the old fashioned way. Defining themselves on stage performing at venues all over New York City. Most notably a series of highly successful shows at the lengendary CBGB's at a time when the venue had not opened it's doors to hip hop for years until The Day Laborers arrived on the scene. Following momentum from those shows they released The Red Sky EP, then entered the studio intent on crafting an album that encompasses the best of what underground boom bap and raw rap has to offer with a refreshing style accessible to mainstream appeal. Their agile flow displays a smooth delivery interweaving intricate and articulate rhyme schemes about introspective topics that all hard working common people can relate to. Whether you're a blue collar worker or put on a suit and tie this music is for you, the youth culture and young adults coming of age. These musicians profess "we've taken everything that was classic to us and updated that sound into songs that currently sound relevant but can still be considered just as relevant years from now. With the release of their debut album, The Learning Process, The Day Laborers are set to make their mark with music in a major way.
