American Poets 2099 Present: Pro The Leader & Nova Kane - Know The Names

MySpace: American Poets 2099
MySpace: Semantix Tha Sorcera

Nova Kane and Pro The Leader have been on their grind for a few years now, having release a slew of internet albums and mixtapes in the last five years. In 2009, they're about to unleash the American Poets 2099 movement. But first, they want people to Know The Names. The album is produced by Semantix Tha Sorcera and features American Poets 2099 member The Holocaust, plus Timbo King, C-Rayz Walz, Solomon Childs, NLZ, Makeba Mooncycle & more. This album has been pushed to the side for the last two years and it’s now finally available.

FILI-
Here's another gem I found not to long ago. What really stood out more than anything else were the beats (done by a UK producer called Semantix Tha Sorcera) which were damn sick to tell you the truth, the track "Swift Illusion 2" is on some next level shit! The MC's themselves ain't too bad either, they compliment each other well, even if the lyrical skill is not always on point. Pro & Nova aside, the guests (especially C-Rayz & Timbo) add another layer of quality of the smoked out, soulful, wu-tang inspired beats. Not to be slept on!!!

iLLiTe - Creme De La Creme

FILI Review:
This album is a certified classic in my book! Released in '08 as iLLiTe's debut album after the '06 album release with Octane called "The Forgotten...Chosen", this album was slept on haaaaard, I mean you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of info regarding this release if you google it but anyways, when I first heard this from beginning to end I couldn't understand how this stayed under the radar. iLLiTe has a real nice flow and really grabs your attention when he's spittin, and the beats are just bananas. You need this in your collection, whether download or hard copy, either way, just take a listen and see what I'm talkin' bout, ya heard!

"Just So You Know" is the lead single off DJ K.O.'s upcoming EP, Living Out A State of Mind Vol. 2. The track introduces Elementality's newest emcee, MadKem, to the world over a soulful Analogic beat.

Keeping with the traditional formating of the vinyl days, we've got a "B-Side" to liberate for this new Digital 12". "The Epidemic" again features MadKem on the mic with DaveNotti providing that grimey rawness on the boards that hip-hop heads have come to expect with B-Sides.

Back on November 10, 2009, DJ K.O. embarked on a year long campaign to release 12 EP's in 12 months. Vol. 2 is set to drop December 15th and pick up right where Vol. 1 left off. Mac Lethal - Speak Low (Music Video)

Off of Mac Lethal's newest album Love Potion 5 (Deluxe Edition), here is a very dope new video for the song "Speak Low". The video was directed by Kyle Harbaugh, with production by Jeremy Willis & Mac Lethal. Below are Mac Lethal's personal thoughts on the video, and camera, if you are interested in reading them:
I am very, very excited about this video. The song we chose for the video doesn't really require action, blood, or pyro or anything. So we decided to go balls out and use the RED camera. Anybody reading this who is involved with film should know about the RED. I'm not super savvy when it comes to cameras, but from my understanding it has this insane ability to sponge a wide spectrum of hues of colors, and can capture very detailed wide shots. It's the same camera they used to film Jumper, and Coraline and shit. So I am absolutely amazed by the quality.

D-Sisive - Jonestown

Fresh off his release of Let The Children Die earlier this year, D-Sisive returns with his follow up album, Jonestown, which was thoughtfully planned out to be released on the 31st anniversary of the Jonestown Massacre.
"It’s the Kool Aid," describes D-Sisive of his newest LP. The Juno nominated artist decided to take a break from his dark/depressing content to focus on the "punchline/battle-rap" style he became known for in the late nineties. The album boasts production from heavyweights Muneshine (Sean Price), Moss (Ghostface, Obie Trice), Anonymous Twist (Planet Asia), Murr (LAL, formerly of The Grassroots), Toronto-born/NY-based Marco Polo (Heltah Skeltah, Masta Ace), 9th Uno and Shinogo. Toronto artist Slim Twig (paper bag records) also makes an appearance on the Shinogo produced "Around The World". The Muneshine produced single "West Coast" is already charting across the country.

DefamTV Interview With Akrobatik

Boston's Akrobatik chops it up with Defam about his views on today's hip hop and the consistency on staying true to himself.
Defamnation: This Artist Profile we had a chance to get up with Boston's very own Akrobatik. He explains where he is at currently within the game and what his plans are for the future. Akrobatik isn't your everyday hip hop artist, he's been in the game for many years and is a staple in today's local hip hop scene. If he isn't coming up with fresh rhymes daily for Jamn' 94.5's Sports Wrap-up and NESN or perfecting his craft and laying down bars for upcoming solo and collabo projects; then he is out in the field crushing bodies with his football team. Akro is a beast in the studio and a monster in the field.

Akro is a very level headed and intelligent person and knows how to deal with the pressures of todays critics and media. With his positive mentality he continues to overcome any obstacles that the culture may throw at him and overcome to still sit at the top.

Akrobatik is a perfect example to the Defam crew, continuing to make moves but not letting things get to your head. If it happens, and you made it happen, that is more rewarding then anything else.

This Winter, he heads off to Europe to do a string of dates with Edo.G and Masta Ace. Check myspace.com/therealakrobatik for more info.

And expect a collabo to drop early 2010.

Sareem Poems feat. Kenn Starr - Rude Awakening (Oddisee Remix)

After a critically acclaimed original release, Long Beach native Sareem Poems is releasing an unusually comprehensive Deluxe Edition of his album Black & Read All Over. The Deluxe Edition will include all fourteen of the original songs along with instrumentals for each track. The album's most unique feature, however, might be its remixes. Sareem chose to remix the album's centerpiece track, "Lower the Boom" not once or twice, but half a dozen times. Each remixed version of "Lower the Boom" was given a different name, and each features a different producer and new guest verses.

"Rude Awakening" is the first of the "Boom" remixes, and features typically fantastic contributions from DMV super-producer and Diamond District emcee Oddisee, as well as lyrical contributions from up-and-coming rapper DMV rapper Kenn Starr. Released by Mello Music Group, the remixes simply had produced too much good feedback for the label to keep them unreleased. Michael Tolle of Mello Music Group simply had no choice- "the promotional remixes started coming back from Oddisee, Fabio Musta, and Nick Tha 1Da and garnered so much attention, had so many people asking 'what album is that on?' that we felt we had to re-release the project with them included. We really wanted to make it worth people's while since the project had already dropped, so we figured we'd give people the whole package." The whole package is about to be delivered. Watch out for digital release of Black & Read All Over: Deluxe Edition, coming December 1 on Mello Music Group.

This project is me acknowledging what is going on in the world around me, and even though I utilize all the web tools available to me, I refuse to participate at the levels of foolishness that have become the norm. I think that it's time that people relaize just how powerful we really are.

In today's maniacally fast paced, and highly interconnected world filled with 140 character updates, constant availabilty, and staggering voyeurism it is so easy to become overwhelmed with it all. This winter, I'm urging you to join me as I unplug and reconnect with the physical and spiritual world. I brought along my DJ, DJ Fresh, who is handling the production on the project, be on the look-out for a leaked single soon. Track listing is below.

Amp Live feat. Trackademicks & Mr. Micro - Gary is a Robot (Music Video)

First video from Amp Live's solo project, Murder at the Discotek out in 2010. Gary is a Robot features Trackademicks and Mr. Micro and has been turning heads world wide.
Jay-Z may have killed autotune, but AmpLive wasn’t ready to let it go without giving it a proper eulogy. Amp bids farewell to 2009's warm old safety blanket (Snuggy?) on the lead single from his upcoming 2010 solo debut Murder at the Discotek. The song features Bay Area emcee/ producer Trackademicks and Mr. Micro.

"Gary is a Robot" is a video about, well, a robot named Gary. Created by mad scientist Dr. AmpLive in his California laboratory, Gary was conceived of equal parts swag, autotune, and duplication. Gary is a masterpiece to the ladies but his tendency to bite the swag of others rubs dudes the wrong way. This tendency to jock others' style is to be his downfall. Trackademicks, whose verse serves as the centerpiece of the song, says, “It’s about the originality that's attached to everything. It's great when someone comes up with a novel idea, but it's their idea." In short, "You can only do you."

The song, much like it's robo-namesake, is overflowing with swag and makes excellent use of the aforementioned autotune. Unlike Gary, however, AmpLive copied no one in creating the electro-symphony that is the track itself. "Gary" is the rare track that's both addictively club-ready and has an on-point message. As Trackademicks says, "Lines have gotten blurred in 2009- people are getting away with things that wouldn’t have used to fly." As autotune, and all the line-blurring that goes with it, rides off into the sunset of 2009, AmpLive invites you to get an advance look at one of 2010's hottest tracks right now.

Black Sheep - Forever Luvlee

Dres is back to represent the legendary group Black Sheep with "Forever Luvlee," the first single from his forthcoming EP, From The Black Pool Of Genius: The Prelude. The song showcases Dres' unmistakable flow, proving, yet again, that although he is one of hip-hop's originators he has yet to loose a step. Different from some of Black Sheep's earlier records, this track has a distinct smoothness that represents growth and maturity in production and recording. The title would have the listener thinking it is a hip-hop love ballad, but the track is far from it. When asked what the message behind the song was Dres had this to say, "Don't put things before people, keep God in your heart always (whatever you call him). Try to find balance in these chaotic days - be Luvlee." The lyrics speak to Dres's "essence of his presence" staying "Forever Luvlee" in a world of ice and bubbly. The lyrics are clever and ironic and let the listener know that regardless of the success he has experienced, it hasn't changed who he is, as he raps, "I like hot sauce on all I eat, my Kool-Aid too sweet... " The EP From the Black Pool of Genius: The Prelude will be released December 1st, followed by a full-length album release scheduled for spring 2010.

Macklemore x Ryan Lewis - Otherside

Check out this new joint from Seattle artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis titled "Otherside". Macklemore has recently put out The Unplanned Mixtape, and is for sale for a mere $5 via his blog: http://bengalyucky.blogspot.com
Beginning in the winter of 2008, MC Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis linked up to create their debut EP entitled “VS.” Based off an idea to sample relevant, contemporary bands, the EP exposes Hip-Hop fans to genres they may be less familiar with, with the hope of appealing to hipsters (let’s be real). “VS.” re-imagines the sounds of Beirut, The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Arcade Fire and many more. The EP will be a completely donation-based release dropping at the end of November. “Otherside” (the first leak from the project) mashes big drums and orchestral pieces over Anthony Kiedis’ classic song about battling with heroin addiction. Macklemore now tells the story of Hip-Hop’s experience with drugs and a first person narrative about his own struggles with drug addiction and rehabilitation.
